Uniting Church Climate Goals
- At the 16th National Assembly meeting of the Uniting Church in Australia in May 2022, a resolution was passed calling on all councils of the church and affiliated agencies to commit to achieving zero emissions by 2040.
- The Banyule Network of Uniting Churches has made a commitment to this goal.
- The 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change set a goal amongst 196 governments (including Australia) to limit global warming to no more than an average temperature increase of 1.5 degrees Celsius.
- Obtaining that goal will require a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of at least 45% by 2030, based on 2010 levels and reaching net zero carbon emissions globally by 2050.
