The Latest Update

7 October 2022

On Monday 3 October 2022, the fences surrounding the Heidelberg site were finally removed. Although the site is free of its fencing, unfortunately it still is half a building site. The worship space is awaiting the final sign off which we hope to receive in the next week.  Once we have the final certificate for the worship area, it will need some cleaning up and furniture moved into place.

The Sycamore Tree Café is open for business, however, serving light refreshments. The retail space next to the café is having a mini-makeover ready for our new tenants, Uniting Pathways, to move in. In the next few months, we still have some painting, landscaping and fire services to the back hall to be installed.

SPACE Worship for Thursday 6 October 2022

The monthly SPACE Community Christian Meditation service, curated by Kristen Barnett.

Thursday 15 September 2022

This SPACE service picked up some of the themes of “Storm Sunday”, the 3rd week of the Season of Creation.

The service reflected on the character of “Sophia”, or Woman Wisdom, as she is described in Job 28 and on the Wind, breath or “Chi” of God as we practiced Breath Prayer.

The Common Ground Community has returned to their home at Heidelberg Scots Uniting Church, 187 Burgundy St Heidelberg.

It was wonderful to be able to meet together again as a community of kids and adults, all worshipping and learning about how Jesus calls us to live together. It’s a laid back and friendly community.

We meet on Sundays at 10am and we’d love to have you join us some time. You’ll see some familiar faces, as quite a few of our Messy Families are also part of Common Ground.

Celebrating God’s Creation!

Sunday 11 September 2022

4.30 – 6.30pm

Ivanhoe Uniting Church, Seddon Street

This month we are going to be joined by Megan Knott from the ‘Banyule Network Climate Action Group’ and we’re going to think about a very strange story from the Old Testament book of Job, when God’s voice can be heard from a whirlwind and he asks Job: “Where you there when I made the earth?” We’re going to explore the idea that God calls us to care for God’s creation, and think about ways in which we can care for the planet.

As usual we’ll have all the fun, crafts, games and science experiments, a celebration time in the Church and a yummy meal to share. We look forward to seeing you all! Why not bring some friends (and their parents) along?

Please contact Rev Sandy Brodine for further information.

Thursday 8 September 2022

This SPACE Service is based on the readings for the Seasons of Creation, and explores the question of how God calls us to care for our planet.

The Seasons of Creation are being celebrated internationally in September and in a number of places around the Banyule Network.

Spring has sprung and the Monday Music Group is out in the sun!

We also began to explore marimbas again after what seems like YEARS since we’ve been able to use the music room for marimbas and percussion.. yay!

The Latest Update

3 September 2022

The front of the Heidelberg site is starting to look very different with the following updates in the past two weeks:
• Landscaping in front of the worship space completed
• Tiles being laid for the seat bench in front of the church
• Fascia on the front of the church painted
• Front windows and doors newly painted with the monument (dark grey) colour to match new windows around the site. These include the retail space, Sycamore Tree Coffee Shop and the walkway, which includes the administration area.
